Denver, Colorado Car Impound Bonds

Denver Revised Municipal Code Section 54-813 (c) – Costs
“The release of a motor vehicle impounded as provided in 54-811 (10) or 54-811 (20) shall require that a two-thousand five-hundred dollar bond be posted within thirty days of impoundment or the vehicle is subject to disposal by by auction.. .”


The initiative requires the following payments be made before the vehicle can be released: The bond of $2,500 a land acquisition fee of $100.00, a processing fee of $75.00, a $120.00 tow fee and all storage charges must be paid. The minimum fee payment required for a vehicle impounded under this initiative on the first day of impoundment is $2,750 with an additional $20.00 per day for each full or partial day that the vehicle is impounded. Payment can be in cash or major credit card. Example:

BOND -- $2,500
LAND FEE -- $100
PROCESSING FEE -- $75
TOW FEE -- $120
STORAGE – $ (add $20 per day or partial day)

The bond is held for one year. If no subsequent violation involving operator licensing occurs, the bond is returned to the person. Should a second violation occur, a bond revocation hearing will be set by the Denver Court to allow the maker of the bond to present evidence of why the bond should not be forfeited. If the vehicle is not claimed within 30 days of the mailing of the notice of impoundment, the vehicle may be disposed of by the city by auction or otherwise.
